Curt Gielow served on the Mequon Common Council as Alderman for the 6th District for the six year period 1997-2003. During 2001-2002 he also served as Common Council president. He has been a member of several city committees, chairing two of them; as well as serving on the Economic Development Board. He currently serves on the Mequon-Thiensville Town Center Committee.
Beginning in 1996 and along with a few other citizens, Gielow was instrumental in convincing Wisconsin Gas (now WE Energies) to enter the water utility business in Mequon. To accomplish securing Lake Michigan water for the southeastern part of the city, Gielow ran for the Common Council in 1997 to complete the initiative. Today he is credited as being the “father of Lake Michigan water for Mequon”.
In 2002, Alderman Gielow ran successfully for the Wisconsin State Legislature to represent Mequon and the surrounding communities of Thiensville, Brown Deer, Bayside and part of Milwaukee in District 23. He served in the State Legislature for two years (4 years), choosing not to seek reelection in 2006.
In 2004 Rep. Gielow was awarded the Legislator of the Year Award by the Wisconsin Hospital Association. He won a similar Legislator of the Year Award in 2006 from the Wisconsin Medical Society. He chaired the Medicaid Reform Committee of the legislature and was the recognized leader in healthcare reform initiatives in the state. He continues to consult with the Wisconsin Medical Society on strategic initiatives.
In his career he has practiced pharmacy, conducted an executive search practice, been the chief executive of several national and international companies, and served in public office at the local and state levels. He has been a small businessman for more than 30 years.
Former State Representative Curt Gielow was appointed Executive Dean of the newly forming Concordia University Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in August 2008.
Mr. Gielow holds a pharmacy degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
In his new role as Executive Dean of Concordia’s School of Pharmacy Dean Gielow is responsible for raising $12 million to build Wisconsin’s second pharmacy school as well as developing and enhancing state, community and professional relationships for the Mequon school.
Curt Gielow has been married for 40 years and has two married sons and a granddaughter.
